EM – Healthcare centers and hospitals require many types of specialized elevators, each designed for different specific purposes. As such, they also have different size and capacity requirements. However, elevator size requirements in Vietnam Standards regarding healthcare centers and hospital design has relatively simple classifications and is lacking in details.

Part 3: Heat, smoke, and elevator shaft ventilation

EM - Over time, technical studies, practical experience, and tragic incidents have demonstrated that elevator shaft vent openings do not deliver the intended effectiveness. On the contrary, they often pose critical life safety issues in the event of a fire.

  • Part 1: Re-evaluating the ventilation of elevator shaft

Part 1: Re-evaluating the ventilation of elevator shaft

EM - Elevator and building standards, along with longstanding design conventions, have traditionally required the installation of a ventilation opening at the top of the elevator shaft. However, this requirement has recently been re-evaluated and determined to be inappropriate and largely ineffective.

  • Part 2: Airflow movement within the elevator shaft

Part 2: Airflow movement within the elevator shaft

EM - When ventilation openings are installed in the elevator shaft, they accelerate the movement of convective airflow between the interior and exterior of the building, thereby intensifying the stack effect and exerting a greater impact on the elevator’s operation.
