TCTM - HCMC recently commenced a project to construct and install 8 elevator systems at 7 pedestrian overpasses along Metro Line 1, creating safe and convenient access to public transportation for passengers.

On January 5, 2026, information from the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Authority indicated that the unit has commenced construction on a project to build and install elevators at pedestrian overpasses for elevated stations along Urban Railway Line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien).

The project was approved for investment by the City People's Committee as Metro Line 1 is progressively improving its service quality, aiming to encourage public use of mass transit.

According to the plan, the construction period is expected to last approximately six months. The project aims to facilitate convenient movement for passengers, especially the elderly, children, people with disabilities, and pregnant women.

The project involves eight elevators with a load capacity of 1,000 kg each, to be installed at seven pedestrian overpasses along Metro Line 1.

Specifically, Tan Cang Station will have one elevator on the Nguyen Huu Canh street sidewalk, while An Phu Station will have two elevators on the median strip of Vo Nguyen Giap street and the sidewalk of Song Hanh street.

Rach Chiec, Phuoc Long, Binh Thai, High-Tech Park, and National University stations will each have one elevator installed in the sidewalk area or on the median strip of the parallel road.

In addition to elevator installation, the project includes auxiliary components such as covered pedestrian access walkways, ramps for people with disabilities, surveillance camera systems, smart announcement speakers, and more.

Currently, Metro Line 1 transports an average of approximately 60,000 passenger trips per day. The completion of the elevator system and auxiliary components is expected to address inconveniences arising during operations while enhancing the passenger experience when accessing the stations.

As previously reported by Tạp chí Thang máy in November 2025, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction approved the project to build and install an elevator system at pedestrian overpasses for the elevated stations of Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien) with a budget of approximately 53.4 billion VND, funded by the city's budget.

In addition to the main components, the project also includes constructing pedestrian walkways combined with railings and canopies to ensure safety and convenience for commuters. Furthermore, surveillance camera systems, announcement audio systems, and other supporting equipment will be installed in a synchronized manner.
