1. KONE and TK Elevator seek merger approval in India
KONE and TK Elevator have requested the Competition Commission of India (CCI) to approve the part of the transaction relating to the operations of the two companies in the country.
According to the filing submitted to the CCI, KONE is expected to gain full control of TK Elevator. The two companies operate in the fields of new installations, services, maintenance, repair, and modernization of elevators and escalators in India.
KONE operates through KONE Elevator India, while TK Elevator provides services for elevators, escalators, and moving walks.
The parties believe the transaction does not create any substantive vertical relationship and will not have a significant adverse effect on competition in India. The CCI will independently review this matter before making a decision.
The global transaction was announced in April 2026, valuing TK Elevator at an enterprise value of EUR 29.4 billion. Completion remains subject to approval from regulators and KONE shareholders, with closing expected no earlier than the second quarter of 2027.
2. China: Nanjing records 811 elevator entrapment cases in July
In July, the Nanjing Municipal Elevator Emergency Rescue Center received and handled 3,600 calls; responded to 811 elevator incidents involving trapped persons, and rescued 1,715 people. Of these, 777 entrapment cases involved passenger elevators.
The average time for rescue teams to arrive on site was 10.5 minutes; the average on-site rescue deployment time was 4 minutes.
3. Forged signatures on maintenance records, Gansu elevator company fined CNY 27,000
Recently, Gansu Haofeng Elevator was fined CNY 27,000 at the Jingwei Yinxiang project. The company used personnel from another company to assist with maintenance, but the records named a manager who did not actually participate; this person's signature was forged by another technician.
4. Germany: Langer + Laumann launches converter for Schindler Varidor 15 elevator doors
Langer + Laumann has added to its product range a converter for Schindler's Varidor 15 door drive system, targeting elevator repair and modernization projects.
The original Varidor 15 drive unit could only be controlled via Schindler's CANIC bus. According to Langer + Laumann, the new solution is fully mechanically compatible with the old equipment; technicians only need to install and connect it, without additional drilling or structural alignment.
