1. China seeks second-round comments on elevator safety technical procedure
The Special Equipment Bureau under China's State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) has published the second draft of the Elevator Safety Technical Procedure. The document was revised following the first comment period that began on February 13, aiming to unify technical requirements for elevator manufacturing, installation, modification, repair, use, management, and maintenance.
This is still a draft and is not yet mandatory. Once issued as a TSG safety technical procedure, the document will become a mandatory basis for entities within its scope of regulation in China.
2. China: Profit of safety component manufacturer Huning drops more than 64%
Hangzhou Huning Elevator Parts reported first-half revenue of 140.02 million yuan, down 5.59%; profit attributable to shareholders fell to 3.32 million yuan, down 64.35%. Operating cash flow rose 9.58% to 12.46 million yuan.
The report identified key risks including continued decline in new elevator demand, excessive price competition, and the possibility that the renovation market may grow slowly as support policies change.
3. South Korea: Walking on escalators causes equipment to deteriorate faster
An experiment with sensors installed beneath the steps recorded an average impact force when passengers walk down equivalent to about 2.01 times body weight; when walking up, it is 1.54 times.
Experts say the repeated loads caused by walking and the uneven loads when passengers stand on one side can affect equipment lifespan and maintenance costs.
