TCTM – As technical standards and safety requirements continue to change, what does the elevator industry need to prepare to adapt? Taking place on October 28 in Hanoi, the PALEA Lift and Escalator Seminar 2026 will connect regional and international regulators, experts, and businesses, jointly updating new developments in standards and exchanging solutions for the market.

The new standard sets new requirements for elevator design, manufacturing, installation, and operation. Meanwhile, equipment currently in use needs to be maintained, assessed, and upgraded to meet increasingly high safety expectations. For businesses, grasping these changes is the basis for preparing technical capabilities, improving services, and building development orientations.

In that context, the Pacific Asia Lift and Escalator Association (PALEA), in coordination with the Vietnam Elevator Association (VNEA), is organizing the PALEA Lift and Escalator Seminar 2026, with media sponsorship from Elevator Magazine. This is a regular activity of PALEA, in which VNEA is an international association member.

Taking place at the Sheraton Hanoi Hotel on October 28, 2026, the event focuses on three contents: updating international standards, sharing management experience in various markets, and enhancing safety for existing elevator systems.

Grasping Changes, Preparing for Transition

A key focus of the conference is the ISO 8100 Elevator Standard and the roadmap for its implementation in the Asia-Pacific region. Mr. Abhijit Dandekar, President of PALEA, will introduce the new points of the ISO 8100-1/2:2026 standard set, the differences and improvements compared to EN 81-20/50, along with the recommended transition roadmap.

From a domestic perspective, Mr. Duong Truong Giang, Head of the Technical Committee for National Standard TCVN/TC 178, will provide updates on the Vietnamese elevator and escalator market, the roadmaps in developing and perfecting regulations and standards, and the industry's development trends.

Placing changes in Vietnam within the regional context, the conference opens opportunities for experts, policymakers, and business leaders to exchange views on applicability, practical obstacles, and support needs during the transition process.

PALEA Lift and Escalator Seminar 2026 is a regular event of the Pacific Asia Lift and Escalator Association, bringing together policymakers from countries in the region; leaders of international organizations and associations; and a large number of international elevator companies.

Broadening Management Perspectives from Regional Experience

Regulations and standards only prove their value when effectively implemented in practice. Experience from various markets is therefore an important part of the program.

The regional picture will be further enriched through presentations by Mr. Mike Wang, representative of the China Elevator Association; Ms. Eunyoung Jung, representative of the Korea Elevator Safety Agency (KoELSA); and Mr. Tommy Chung, representative of the Hong Kong Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD).

The reports will focus on updating regulatory and standards development activities, while sharing experience and challenges in the process of standardization and enhancing safety management in each market.

These perspectives provide a reference basis for Vietnamese regulatory agencies, professional organizations, and businesses in perfecting processes, improving service quality, and managing safety.

PALEA Lift and Escalator Seminar 2026 is where leading regional and international experts engage in in-depth exchanges on standardization and enhanced safety management issues that are shaping the future of the regional and global elevator industry.

From Risk Identification to Safety Enhancement

Along with updating requirements for new elevators, the industry needs to address the safety challenges of existing equipment. Advances in technology and standards create the need to reassess deficiencies, determine priorities, and select remedial measures.

In the presentation on Maintenance and Modernization of Existing Elevators to Enhance Safety, Mr. Alvin Chen, Secretary of PALEA, will present methods and standards that support the assessment of these deficiencies, while also addressing remedial and upgrade measures.

The content creates opportunities for parties to exchange views on how to incorporate technical advances into maintenance and renovation activities, thereby improving safety levels throughout the equipment's service life.

The discussion and Q&A session will follow the presentations, creating conditions for delegates, policymakers, and business leaders to exchange views on issues arising from professional activities. Through this, the conference aims to connect understanding of standards with applicability, helping parties gain additional basis for decisions on technical matters, management, and investment in upgrades.

As a regular activity of PALEA, with VNEA as an international association member, the conference contributes to strengthening connections between the Vietnamese elevator industry and the regional professional community. Through dialogue and experience sharing, the event aims to promote the application of standards, enhance business capabilities, and improve safety for users.
