1. South Korea proposes 14 tasks connecting elevator training with AI and on-site safety
Recently, the Korea Elevator Safety Agency (KoELSA) and Korea Elevator University organized a cooperation forum in Jinju City.
At the event, the Korea Elevator Safety Agency and Korea Elevator University proposed implementing 14 cooperation tasks, from technician training and AI application to research on lifting equipment for urban air mobility. The program aims to incorporate safety management and on-site engineering experience into training, research, and technology testing.
2. Russia: Director prosecuted after worker falls down elevator shaft
The director of a construction company in Barnaul, Russia will stand trial on charges of violating labor safety regulations, resulting in the death of a worker.
The accident occurred in August 2025 at a 24-story building construction site. According to the investigation agency, the victim fell from a height of more than 10 m down the elevator shaft and died. The openings leading into the elevator shaft and the work position above were determined to lack the required protective covers.
The case file has been transferred to court, with a maximum possible sentence of 5 years in prison.
3. India: Delivery worker dies after falling into freight elevator shaft
A delivery worker died after falling down an elevator shaft at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) in Mohali.
The accident occurred on September 2, when the victim was using the freight elevator to transport items on the fourth floor. The individual was determined to have fallen down the elevator shaft and died at the scene.
Police are examining the operation of the equipment and safety assurance measures. The investigation agency has not yet concluded whether the victim stepped through the floor door when the cabin was not at the stopping position, or whether the accident stemmed from another cause.
4. Jeddah Tower reaches 454 m, surpassing the Petronas Twin Towers
Jeddah Tower in Saudi Arabia has reached a height of 454 m at the 113th floor, surpassing the Petronas Twin Towers and officially entering the group of the 25 tallest buildings in the world despite still being under construction.
According to the plan, Jeddah Tower will be more than 1,000 m tall, thereby surpassing the 828 m Burj Khalifa to become the tallest building in the world. Contractor Saudi Binladin Group is maintaining an average progress of about one floor every five days. The contract for completing the project is valued at 7.2 billion Saudi riyals, equivalent to about 1.9 billion USD; the target completion date is set for 2028.
