The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction has just approved a project to construct and install elevator systems at the pedestrian bridges of the elevated stations of Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien) with a budget of approximately 53.4 billion VND, funded by the Ho Chi Minh City budget.
The project aims to enhance amenities and ensure convenient and safe conditions for passengers, particularly for vulnerable groups (the elderly, children, persons with disabilities, pregnant women, etc.).

Metro Line 1 comprises 9 pedestrian bridges connecting to stations, which were completed by the end of 2024.
The project is developed by the Ho Chi Minh City Management Authority for Urban Railways (MAUR). The system consists of 8 elevators, each with a load capacity of 1,000 kg and two stops, arranged at 7 pedestrian bridges connecting to the elevated stations of the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro line.
Specifically, in addition to the pedestrian bridge leading to An Phu station which will have two elevators, the Tan Cang, Rach Chiec, Phuoc Long, Binh Thai, High-Tech Park, and National University stations will each be equipped with one elevator.
Most elevators are located on the right side of Metro Line 1 (in the direction from Sai Gon Bridge to Suoi Tien), falling within the scope of the sidewalk or median strip of the Hanoi Highway, now Vo Nguyen Giap Street. The Tan Cang station is the exception, with its elevator arranged on the left side of the line, on the existing Nguyen Huu Canh Street sidewalk.
Besides the main component, the project also includes the construction of walkways combined with railings and canopies to ensure safety and convenience for pedestrians. Additionally, surveillance camera systems, audio announcements, and support devices will be installed as an integrated system. According to the plan, the project will be implemented from now until the end of 2025.
As the first urban railway line in Ho Chi Minh City, the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro is 19.7 km long, comprising 3 underground stations and 11 elevated stations, connecting the city center to the eastern gateway. With a travel time of about 30 minutes for the entire journey from the central Ben Thanh station to the final Suoi Tien station, the city operates approximately 200 train trips daily (each train has 3 cars with a capacity of 930 passengers).
Since commencing operations in December 2024, the volume of passengers using this metro line has been very high, averaging over 52,000 users per day.
