Natural resources are gradually exhausted, the earth is warming clearly, the consequences of climate change are natural disasters, epidemics have become an existential threat that seriously threatens human life. In that context, “green” solutions towards environmental protection are becoming a common goal of all mankind.
On the edge of the abyss…
The report, compiled by 234 scientists from 66 countries, shows that human influence has been warming the climate since 1970 at a rate not seen in at least the past 2,000 years. Global warming and environmental pollution, epidemics, natural disasters, crop failures, etc. have long-term effects on human life. Due to habitat loss to fallow land, deforestation and warming seas, about 50% of plant and animal species will face extinction by 2050 if the earth’s temperature increases by 1,1 to 6.4 degrees Celsius again. In recent years, forest fires have burned millions of hectares of old-growth forests around the world.
In February 2019, large forest fires broke out in many places throughout the Bandipur National Park of Karnataka state (India). An estimated 10,920 acres burned in five days.
The global warming also causes massive melting of the permafrost. According to calculations by scientists, soon, in the year 2100, the earth will heat up by 5 degrees Celsius, causing the ice to melt, causing the sea level to rise by 2m. In the distant future, 5,000 years from now, all 20.8 million km3 of the earth’s ice will melt, causing sea levels to rise by about 65m, many cities around the world may be wiped out, islands, archipelagos, coastal areas may be submerged. The Southeast Asian coast and surrounding islands will be deeply ingrained inland by sea water, Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City, Singapore, Manila and Hong Kong could be submerged in water. With the same fate, Australia will lose much of the coastal land, where about 80% of the population lives. Not only that, a series of anaerobic bacteria that have been “sleeping” in the ice blocks, now released into the environment, will become “biological bombs” causing unpredictable diseases, …
In the summer of 2016, the mysterious death of a nomad boy and 2,500 reindeer, doctors determined the cause was anthrax, which came from thawed carcasses of reindeer that had been infected with anthrax from 75 years ago (1941). Many viruses and bacteria of diseases that were thought to have been destroyed forever, preserved by polar ice, now come to life and begin the journey to spread. It is thought that the eradicated smallpox and plague could be trapped in the permafrost. Experimenting on a 30,000-year-old virus in the Siberian permafrost, when it was rewarmed in the lab, it immediately came back to life…

In our country, in the past 50 years, Vietnam’s climate has changed markedly, the annual average temperature has increased by 0.7 degrees Celsius, sea level has increased by 20cm, floods and droughts have become more and more frequent. Experts warn that if the earth’s temperature increases by 2 degrees Celsius, tens of millions of people in our country will lose their homes and 45% of agricultural land in the Mekong Delta will be submerged in sea water. In fact, the current rising tide has significantly affected the daily life of people in Ho Chi Minh City and some neighboring provinces.
Severe drought in Africa and many parts of the world
In that situation, the whole world, including Vietnam, has taken active action for climate change. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has just attended the 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26) in the United Kingdom. There are now more than 110 countries with new emission reduction plans by 2050. Some have even shortened the length of their commitments to cut emissions. Through the global campaign “Bussiness Ambition for 1.5 degrees Celsius”, more than 340 executives are committed to leading the company to achieve its emissions target, to maintain the earth’s temperature to only increase by 1.5 degrees Celsius in the future, as well as towards carbon neutrality before 2050,…
Accompanying with environmental protection solutions, consumers now tend to favor brands and products that apply green solutions. That means if a manufacturer does not have a long-term and sustainable development strategy in the trend of environmental protection, client-centered, it will inevitably be eliminated soon. If not participating in the development trend accompanying environmental protection, lagging behind is a clear consequence for many manufacturers in the world and in the country. Only products of sufficient range, with appropriate and humane development strategies, can survive.
Business not participate in “greening” will be boycotted…
Machines that use materials from metal, electric fuel, gasoline, oil, etc. will have many impacts on the environment. It is estimated that today, elevators consume about 4% of the energy produced globally, equivalent to twice the total energy produced in a year by Russia and Japan combined! On average, each elevator consumes about 10% of a building’s electricity. Therefore, elevator manufacturers are trying to improve step by step to reduce materials and energy consumption while ensuring safety in operation.
Inverter technology is commonly used in many types of household electrical equipment, including elevators, to help control the device’s capacity to avoid energy waste. The use of solar energy is also being researched and applied by elevator companies around the world. It is known that there are elevator models that use a combination of solar and grid power to save over 45% of electricity consumption compared to conventional grid-powered elevators.
Some elevator manufacturers already use rollers as a guide, which will contribute to a reduced impact on the environment through the reduction of oil-lubricated parts and the replacement of rubber wheels with longer lifespan. Another solution is to regenerate energy from the elevator motors. When the elevator moves down, the cabin load can completely move a generator. Electricity generated during the movement of the elevator will be transmitted back to the electrical network in the building. Compared with elevators without a regenerative converter device, the new system saves energy up to 35%.
Another solution that is applied towards environmental protection is to use LED lights that do not use mercury. Also, lead-free component solder is used on printed circuit boards and mounting wires. Elevator manufacturers also find ways to reduce the noise of the elevator, program the automatic switch on and off for the air conditioner, lights, exhaust fan, … for the cabin to save electricity.
Development strategy for the future
Many elevator manufacturers and business have aimed to put the community’s interests first, responding to the green living solution that is becoming the trend of the modern world. Typical of the “green wave” elevator is a famous manufacturer from Europe. Found in the 60s of the last century in Spain and developed to this day, the Orona brand attracts more than 200 distributors around the world with more than 250,000 elevators manufactured in 2017.
Orona has become the first elevator brand in the world certified to comply with the Ecodesign ISO – 14006 standard (Environmental management systems – Guidelines for incorporating eco-design, an international standard that regulates the guidance to help organizations establish, document, implement, maintain and continuously improve their ecodesign management as part of their environmental management system). This can be considered as a leap in the “green” journey of the elevator industry.
Some Orona Elevator Models
In that trend, Orona has built a modern, humane development strategy and above all, towards community benefits. Therefore, from the field of management, production, service, … this manufacturer all meets the standards of environmental protection. For example, all of Orona’s centers in Spain have received ISO 14001 certification (certification of meeting the criteria for an effective environmental management system). From that development strategy, Orona elevators are manufactured with all stages from raw materials, production, transportation, use to the end of the product life cycle being considered for the impact on the environment, must meet green environmental standards. Orona Elevator has a smart microprocessor system that connects directly to the operation management center in Spain from which it can guide and handle techniques via the Internet, etc. Green solutions applied by Orona for the elevator has contributed firstly to reduce the energy consumption of the product, and then to reduce the risk of environmental pollution. In the long term, Orona’s green development strategy is towards building a brand with comprehensive responsibility to the community, starting a positive development trend, a “race” to protect the environment that anyone not participating in will be eliminated.
Environmental protection today has become an extremely urgent issue, requiring immediate global, comprehensive, effective and practical solutions for the people. In that trend, every technological advancement is not outside of this goal. Comprehensive application of environmentally friendly solutions has become an urgent development strategy, the survival of enterprises in production, product marketing and the elevator industry cannot stand aside.
