On the morning of October 5, the PALEA/VNEA Lift and Escalator Seminar occurred in Hanoi. This seminar was organized by the Pacific Asia Lift and Escalator Association (PALEA) and the Vietnam Elevator Association (VNEA). It is the first time a Vietnamese representative, the VNEA, has come forward and hosted the international elevator information seminar.

The seminar attracted more than 70 guests from many enterprises, organizations, associations, and state agencies in Vietnam and abroad.

Deputy Minister of Labor – Invalids and Social Affairs Le Van Thanh spoke at the PALEA/VNEA Lift and Escalator Seminar.

Speaking at the opening, Deputy Minister Le Van Thanh hoped that the seminar would not only be a premise for building and completing the elevator regulations and standards but also strengthen the cooperation among countries in the Asia Pacific.

Mr. Graham Worthington – President of PALEA introduced the program and gave a welcome speech.

Opening the conference was the presentation “Regulations, Standards of Lifts in Vietnam and Initiatives” presented by Mr. Nguyen Duc Hanh – Director of the Vietnam Institute of Lift Engineering Application.

Mr. Eric Darmenia – Secretary of PALEA, and Jardine Schindler Group Senior Consultant presented the presentation “Maintenance and Modernization of Existing Lifts and Escalators

Mr. Kaiser Cheung – a representative of the Hong Kong Lift and Escalator Contractors Association, and Mr. Tse Man Ho – an engineer from the Hong Kong Electrical and Mechanical Services Department presented at the seminar.

The Hong Kong Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) and the Hong Kong Lift and Escalator Contractors Association (LECA) work together in very close alignment not only to enhance and promote regulations codes and safety but also to look at new initiatives to improve maintenance and reduce downtime in their highly urbanized communities.

Mr. Sundar Neelakandan – A member of the PALEA Management Committee presented the topic “Notified Bodies (N. B’s) and their Role in the Lift Industry“.

Mr. Bong Won Kang – Manager of Korea Elevator Safety Agency (KoELSA) and the presentation “Elevator Standardization Activities in Korea and International Lift EXPO“.

By virtual presentation, Mr. Esfandiar Gharibaan – the Chairman of CEN/TC 10, the Technical Committee in the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), presented the paper “Global Codes, Standards, and Harmonization Initiatives” CEN/ISO safety Requirements”.

With the theme “The Lift Codes and Safety”, the seminar received attention and exchanged opinions from domestic and international individuals working in other aspects related to elevators.

The representatives of many Vietnam elevator enterprises, such as Pacific, Hisa, TK Elevator, ALPEC, Tan Lap, iTek, Mekamic, Van Su Loi,… were invited.

Besides domestic elevator enterprises, the seminar also had the participation of representatives of foreign elevator enterprises in Vietnam: Schindler Vietnam, KONE Vietnam, Hitachi Vietnam, Mitsubishi Vietnam, and Otis Vietnam,…

This is also an opportunity for representatives of enterprises and organizations operating in the domestic elevator industry to interact and connect with large units in the region and globally.

At the end of the seminar, the PALEA Management Committee and VNEA took souvenir photos with all the attending guests. The conference ended with a lot of in-depth information, promising many opportunities for cooperation, exchange, and development in the future.
