In 2021, Institute of Lift Engineering Application was born, with the main task of research and transfer of scientific – technical progress, construction – advanced development of standards, technical regulations and standardization of human resources. elevator industry. This is an important premise, not only completing the relatively new ecosystem, but more importantly, towards the goal of creating leverage for the country’s elevator industry to develop sustainably.
There is no product “Make in Vietnam”
Elevators are composed of many basic equipment such as motors, inverters, microprocessor boards, control cabinets, dedicated load cables, overspeed prevention devices, etc. Experts all understand that these are sets of equipment. the most important part in the elevator. Has Vietnam been able to produce these devices? We don’t want to confuse readers with this question, but want you to follow the story.
In fact, most of us can only produce parts such as elevator structure, landing doors, counterweight, electrical cabinets, light bulbs, electrical cables, cabin floors, handrails, etc. Dr. Nguyen Duc Hanh, Director of Vietnam Institute of Lift Engineering Application said: “We are capable of producing 20% of the components and equipment ourselves. But in terms of electricity – electronics, we import almost 100%. Domestic elevator products still carry the soul of imported components, but do not carry a lot of Vietnamese gray matter and wisdom in them. This makes the added value in domestic elevator products very small.”
We can blame the limited supporting industry, which has not kept up with the flow rate of the elevator industry. But a more practical cause that must have been recognized by domestic elevator manufacturers is that we are lacking in feasibility studies and transfer of scientific and technical progress. Once the technology is mastered, the domestic elevator industry can take off and create higher added value.
Jumping on “springs” will definitely achieve much higher results if you just go “barefoot”.
Science and technology will have to become the key driving force for Vietnam elevator industry
Where is the “spring”?
Of the more than 300 elevator companies present in the Vietnamese market today, most of them are small and medium-sized enterprises, how many have a technology research and development (R&D) department?
The essence of R&D in every business is the accumulation and creation of knowledge and technology. But in order to invest in R&D, it takes a significant amount of financial and human resources that not all businesses can do.
In addition, the R&D activities of small and medium-sized enterprises often focus more on applications, that is, associated with innovation and solving current problems rather than breakthrough innovations.
It is not difficult to understand because elevator is a young industry, only 20 years old in Vietnam. Meanwhile in the world, this field is centuries ahead of us. At that time, domestic enterprises either choose to do trade, or choose to import components for assembly and distribution in the market. Only when it exists, after the development process creates enough accumulation for the business, is it time to think about investing to master technology. It’s not wrong to have a new religion, but inadequacies will appear.
When we do not master technology, we are always behind the world. The lessons of “technological waste” from the fields of electronics, mechanics… are still topical enough to warn the young Vietnamese elevator industry. We do not have the technological know-how – a sharp weapon to compete with, leading to inferiority right at home. Money flow is still flowing backwards from inside to outside the country and there will be no signs of reversing if it continues the old way.
This challenge prompted the establishment of Vietnam Institute of Lift Engineering Application, under the Vietnam Elevator Association. One of the main missions of the Institute is to create and transfer technology – elevator techniques. A piece to further complete the elevator industry ecosystem in the country.
Create leverage
Vietnam Institute of Lift Engineering Application was born with the mission of “lifting” the role and position of the domestic elevator industry. To do so, we will take the training and testing of industry human resources as the “fulcrum”, taking technology transfer and developing standards and standards as the “place of force”. Then we will create “leverage” to bring Vietnam elevator industry to the next level.
Dr. Nguyen Duc Hanh, Director of Vietnam Institute of Lift Engineering Application shared: “The Institute will train staff to install, operate and maintain elevators with training materials carefully compiled by the a team of skilled engineers combined with training institutions such as universities and vocational schools. Participants in the course will be trained with a solid foundation in theory and practice. After the course, students can install and operate the elevator fluently. During the training, trainees will be exposed to specially installed elevators for training. Students are required to pass an exam to obtain a certificate. The certification levels will clearly classify the level of the students. The Institute will commit to output quality.”
It can be seen that when the human resources of the elevator industry are well-trained, tested and certified in the following forms: Learning by doing, Training on job (Training in real work) to linking training quality with the actual needs of the business community. At that time, the capacity of the elevator industry had a qualitative change. The workforce trained in elevator operations from orientation, basic to specialized, and management in the industry will grow in quantity over time. One of the three fundamental laws of philosophy has shown that: When there is a change in quality, it is a revolution. When a large enough change is made, that is evolution. On that basis, the fundamental capacity – the human factor will be raised to new heights, closer to the world level.
From the perspective of Research and Development (R&D), Elevator Application Engineering Institute will strive to pioneer in knowledge creation, development and technology transfer. At that time, we will have our own “secrets” to create elevator products with a high localization rate, reduce production costs, and realize future elevator technology trends such as cushions. from schools or create “green” products for the benefit of the community. New technologies will be transferred to support the domestic elevator business community, creating a strong push for the domestic elevator industry to accelerate and create mutations.
Genius Isaac Newton once said “I can see further because I stand on the shoulders of giants”, with the meaning of knowing how to learn and take advantage of existing achievements to rise. The Elevator Application Engineering Institute hopes that with the values it brings, it will create leverage for the country’s elevator industry to develop rapidly in technology.
“Elevator is a specific and important industry and field in society, it greatly affects the safety and quality of people’s lives. Therefore, the Institute of Elevator Application Engineering will be a pioneer in researching, advising and proposing regulations and standards in the field of elevator production, acceptance, operation and maintenance. The Institute will connect with prestigious industry associations in the world, leading elevator technology corporations to learn and share experiences for domestic businesses. Since then, constantly improving the quality and safety of domestic elevators”, said Dr. Nguyen Duc Hanh./
