EM – This is the information mentioned in the launching ceremony of the Action Month for Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) and the Hanoi Workers’ Month 2023 which took place on the morning of April 27, in Ha Dong district (Hanoi).
Accordingly, the report summarizing data on occupational accidents in 2022, in the city, there are still 196 cases, causing 198 accidents, of which 42 people died; the number of serious occupational accidents (death) decreased by 1 case, the number of deaths decreased by 1 person, the number of serious injuries decreased by 41 people compared to 2021.
Action month on OSH and Workers’ Month will be held from May 1, 2023 to the end of May 31, 2023 with the theme “Strengthening the development of safe working procedures and measures and improving working conditions, reducing stress in the workplace” and “Connecting workers, building organizations”.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Vu Thu Ha said that about the situation of occupational accidents and occupational diseases in the city, there are gradually positive changes, making an important contribution to the development of the economy and ensuring social security of the capital. However, the report shows that occupational accidents are still an urgent issue that requires more drastic actions.

Hanoi ranked 6th out of 63 provinces and cities in the number of serious and fatal occupational accidents. Some units, enterprises and construction works are still negligent and have not paid much attention to occupational safety and health, potentially causing damage to property of the government, enterprise and people.

Launching the OSH Action Month and the Workers’ Month from May 1, 2023 to the end of May 31, 2023, the theme of the OHS Action Month 2023 is “Strengthening the development of processes and measures to work safely and improve working conditions, reduce stress in the workplace” and the theme of Workers Month 2023 is “Connecting workers, building organizations”.
In order to effectively implement the above two topics, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Vu Thu Ha suggested that the city’s departments, agencies, People’s Committees of districts, towns continue to thoroughly grasp and strictly follow the direction of the Central Government, Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, City Party Committee, Hanoi City People’s Committee on promoting occupational safety and health; effectively implement Action Month according to Plan No. 82/KH-UBND of Hanoi People’s Committee. At the same time, widely propagate the purpose, meaning and content of the Action Month on OSH and Worker Month 2023 as well as the regulations on OSH, with specific, practical and effective actions.
Agencies, units, enterprises, production and business establishments continue to launch emulation movements to promote initiatives, improve techniques, improve working conditions for workers and employees to ensure OSH, take care of the workers’ lives. At the same time, promote training activities on OSH; inspecting machinery and equipment with strict requirements on occupational safety; measuring working environment; improving working conditions, providing periodic health check-ups and care for employees.
Trade unions at all levels guide agencies, units, enterprises, production and business establishments in building a culture of occupational safety and measures to prevent occupational accidents and diseases. In addition, implementing activities to connect, introduce, and create job opportunities, learn vocational skills, ensure sustainable jobs and earn income from union members and employees… Employees need to be proactive, voluntarily strictly comply with regulations and measures to prevent occupational accidents, improve skills, etc.
Responding to Action Month on OSH and Workers’ Month 2023, Chairwoman of Ha Dong District People’s Committee Can Thi Viet Ha said that the district has directed functional units to organize extensive training to all people in the area in many practical ways. At the same time, the district has established 2 interdisciplinary inspection teams, conducting inspection of 30 units and enterprises in the observance of labor laws, OSH; inspected 6 apartment buildings, and commercial centers using 75 elevators and escalators. Through timely inspection of requirements to overcome shortcomings and limitations, contributing to raising awareness, enhancing responsibility and sense of law compliance of organizations and individuals in the work of OSH, ensuring the benefits for workers.
