EM – Enterprises in the elevator industry all emphasize the importance of standardizing Vietnam’s elevator industry, thereby screening counterfeit goods in the market, creating a strong development foundation for the industry.
On the morning of May 16, 2023, at the headquarters of the Vietnam Elevator Association (VNEA) in Hanoi, a meeting of businesses in the Vietnamese elevator industry was held by VNEA.
The seminar was attended by representatives of 12 enterprises operating in the field of manufacturing elevators and elevator equipment in the country and leaders of the Vietnam Elevator Association. Specifically:
With Mr. Nguyen Hai Duc – Chairman of Vietnam Elevator Association; Mr. Nguyen Huy Tien – General Secretary of Vietnam Elevator Association.
Faced with the difficult situation of the economy and the lack of general direction of Vietnam’s elevator industry, at the meeting, representatives of leading enterprises in the field of manufacturing elevators and elevator equipment in the country share, listen, discuss and evaluate to draw out important issues of the industry in order to build a healthy and sustainable development of the Vietnamese elevator industry ecosystem.
Businesses need to focus more on service and product quality instead of competing on price.
Speaking at the opening of the seminar, Mr. Nguyen Hai Duc, Chairman of Vietnam Elevator Association expressed: “In the immediate future, businesses need to focus on analyzing the pain of enterprises in the industry, so that together each other to find out the cause, quickly solve each problem so that the elevator industry in Vietnam has a solid development foundation.
Since then, creating trust and voice of domestic elevator enterprises to domestic consumers. Problems such as price competition by reducing the quality of products and services, or counterfeiting, etc. will hinder the development of the industry, causing consumers to lose trust in domestic enterprises.”
Mr. Nguyen Hai Duc – Chairman of Vietnam Elevator Association spoke at the Seminar
The VNEA President emphasized that Vietnam’s leading manufacturers and suppliers of elevator components need to work together to set an example, solve industry problems, and work together to standardize the elevator industry, eliminate counterfeit goods, raise the status of Vietnamese elevator enterprises in the eyes of Vietnamese consumers.
In fact, the Vietnamese elevator market has also appeared where many businesses take advantage of customers’ confusion to make fake products. They use names that are quite similar to brand names or print logos of other brands to deceive customers.
There are even cases where enterprises import goods from country A to country B to get the origin of country B and then import them back to Vietnam. This happens not only to Vietnamese enterprises but also to foreign enterprises, especially in the field of elevator components.
Mr. Tran Tho Huy – General Director of Thien Nam Elevator JSC
Discussing the problem of counterfeit goods, Mr. Tran Tho Huy – General Director of Thien Nam Elevator Joint Stock Company hoped that the Association would promote further communication so that users could better understand the product as well as product quality.
“For familiar products such as air conditioners, customers can be very knowledgeable, they know which brand is good. However, the elevator industry is a specific industry so customers often do not understand. That’s why buyers can easily get confused, “said Mr. Tran Tho Huy.
Regarding the issue of price competition, the General Director of Thien Nam Elevator Joint Stock Company said that businesses cannot compete on price forever, if the product price is too low, then the product quality will not be guaranteed, greatly affecting the reputation of the Vietnamese elevator industry.
Besides, if they compete on price, it will be difficult for Vietnamese enterprises to compete with Chinese enterprises. The Vietnamese elevator industry is a potential industry, so in the future Chinese companies will penetrate the Vietnamese market very quickly. Therefore, instead of competing on price, we should focus on creating good products and services with different values.
“Elevator businesses want to do long-term business, they need to do well and seriously, especially in the field of service and after-sales customer care. Otherwise, the business itself can only exist for a few years and then slowly be eliminated,” said Mr. Tran Tho Huy.
Mr. Nguyen Hai Phu – General Director of Hai Phu Minh Company Limited
Mr. Nguyen Hai Phu – General Director of Hai Phu Minh Company Limited expressed his expectation that businesses in the industry need to focus more on improving product quality instead of dumping competition.
“We need companies strong enough to connect and unite, thereby improving product quality, making the elevator industry a conditional business,” said Mr. Nguyen Hai Phu.
Also commenting on the issue of price competition, Mr. Nguyen Trong Binh – Deputy General Director of Sales of ALPEC Joint Venture Joint Stock Company said that the price is low, but if the product is good and meets the standards, it is acceptable, and this will be better for the customer. The key here is to have standards.

“Consumer often like cheap prices and the story of cheap prices is a matter of individual businesses competing with each other, but when that elevator reaches consumers, whether customers know it or not, businesses still need to ensure safety, quality and standards,” said Mr. Nguyen Trong Binh.
He also emphasized the need for the Association to participate in the development of standards. We need to apply standards to every step from production, testing, installation, maintenance. For example, when an installation worker submits a degree or certificate when installing an elevator, the elevator will naturally have a standard.
In order to eliminate fake goods, raise the status of Vietnamese elevators need to standardize
Sharing the same opinion, Mr. Nguyen Hai Duc, Chairman of VNEA also said that the problem of cheap or expensive, it is the competition between enterprises in terms of technological know-how and cost management of each enterprise. The most important issue is that products need to meet standards, from standards of components and equipment to standards of people.
“The nature of standards and regulations have been issued by the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs. However, the issue of enforcing those standards and regulations requires laboratories to test products and components…”, VNEA Chairman shared.
Nguyen Hai Duc added that at the end of 2022, the Association and state agencies also had a working trip to the Elevator Testing Center of the Korea Elevator Safety Agency (KoELSA). At this center, experts check from the smallest details such as checking buffer, door buffer, etc., before being put into use in the Korean market.
“On the side of the Association, currently the standards on components or equipment replacement norms, etc. have been developed by the Association. The association will send it to businesses in the industry to give their opinions to promulgate,” the VNEA Chairman informed.
Mr. Mai Manh Hien – General Director of Mekamic Industrial Equipment and Construction Joint Stock Company
Expressing his opinion on the above issue, Mr. Mai Manh Hien – General Director of Mekamic Construction and Industrial Equipment Joint Stock Company said that the elevator industry should have standards for elevator products and accessories, supporting industries, etc. to avoid that any business can participate in the production of elevators and accessories, but it is uncertain whether it is safe or not.
From the perspective of counterfeit goods, imitation goods, standardization and specialization will also help the elevator market become cleaner. Products and components with brand names and new standards join the trade chain. From there, counterfeit units will also not be able to penetrate the market.
Mr. Nguyen Van Nghia – Chairman of VP Tech Industry Joint Stock Company
Mr. Nguyen Van Nghia – Chairman of VP Tech Industry Joint Stock Company also said that we do not really understand deeply about the elevator industry. While foreign countries have specialized training schools on elevators, Vietnam has no training schools for elevators, no industry standards.
Mr. Nguyen Van Nghia emphasized, if we want to have industry standards, we need to train people working in the elevator industry first, then the Vietnamese brand can take the initiative in the calculation, design and production stages. … Only then can we produce quality products instead of imitations.
Mr. Nguyen Cao Giap – Director of GHT Vietnam Elevator Manufacturing Joint Stock Company
Mr. Nguyen Cao Giap – Director of GHT Vietnam Elevator Manufacturing Joint Stock Company also wishes from the standardization of the elevator industry, turning the industry into a conditional business that will help screen out unethical business to operate in the Vietnamese elevator market, from which consumers also feel secure to use products of Vietnamese enterprises.
Concluding the seminar, VNEA President agreed on four important issues that the Vietnam elevator industry as well as the Association need to solve in the immediate and long term. Specifically:
