EM – Standardizing the elevator industry, focusing on training human resources in the industry will create a strong reputation and foundation for the development of Vietnamese elevator enterprises in the domestic market.
At the meeting of domestic enterprises operating in the field of manufacturing elevators and elevator equipment in the country organized by the Vietnam Elevator Association (VNEA) on the morning of May 16, 2023, Mr. Bui Manh Cuong – Northern Area Manager of Hisa Electric Elevator Co., Ltd., and Deputy Director of Tan Lap Elevator – Mechanical Co., Ltd. expressed concern about the current situation in the Vietnamese elevator industry.
Mr. Bui Manh Cuong – Northern Area Manager of HISA Electric Elevator Co., Ltd
“Currently, Vietnamese businesses rely on personal brands more than product and market brands. Whichever business gives good advice will be chosen by customers.
As for tastes, customers are still mainly looking for foreign elevators, but due to the expensive cost problem, they choose domestic elevators. The biggest problem of the Vietnamese elevator market is that it is gradually being lost to foreign elevator businesses, “Mr. Bui Manh Cuong expressed concern.
Sharing about this issue, Ms. Kim Sao Mai – Director of D&D Saigon Elevator Co., Ltd. also said that in Korea, standards or regulations on an elevator unit to be operated need to ensure human factors, be professionally trained.
Through training, workers in the elevator industry are licensed and certified, and that training and certification is not only a once in a lifetime, but 2-3 years of repeating that training, updating the standards. New decision, new knowledge about elevator industry.
“It is because the training standards in Korea are very good that they have invisibly protected domestic businesses. It creates a protective ring for domestic enterprises from the penetration of poor-quality foreign enterprises,” said Ms. Kim Sao Mai.

In addition, the Director of D&D Saigon Elevator Co., Ltd. added that even though Korean elevator companies order OEM products (Original Equipment Manufacturer) in other countries, that products must also be according to their standards. Not that you can sell whichever product you want, if it is cheaper.
“The Vietnamese elevator industry needs to pay more attention to training, standardizing human resources in the industry as well as setting higher requirements on industry standards and regulations. And from there, we ourselves can create a siege to protect domestic elevator businesses,” said Ms. Kim Sao Mai.
Need to specialize in production activities
Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Van Nghia – Chairman of VP Tech Industry Joint Stock Company also raised the issue, currently our Vietnamese elevator industry has only produced a part, not all of it. However, we need to step by step build a localization route, so that Vietnamese elevators will have a foothold in the international market.
Also talking about this issue, Ms. Kim Sao Mai shared that a factory in Korea will not produce all elevator accessories, instead, businesses will specialize in a strong product line, which helps the nitial investment cost not spread. Enterprises focus on producing a product in the elevator supply chain, so the efficiency is much more optimal.
According to Ms. Kim Sao Mai, these are issues that need to be solved from the very beginning and when the Association needs to orient businesses towards specialization and less spread, then our initial investment costs will decrease and production efficiency will increase.
Mr. Phung Duc Kien – Director of Giang Anh Elevator Manufacturing Co., Ltd
Sharing the same opinion, Mr. Phung Duc Kien – Director of Giang Anh Elevator Manufacturing Co., Ltd. suggested that businesses can jointly create a common product of the Vietnamese elevator industry, focusing on quality.
In addition to the individual products of each enterprise, each domestic elevator business can focus on developing well each part of the elevator, thereby creating an ecosystem of the Vietnamese elevator industry instead of compete with each other as in current situation. That is, instead of developing the top like today, Vietnamese elevator businesses need to focus on developing supporting industries.
Enterprises must seriously develop to regain the trust of Vietnamese consumers
Commenting at the seminar, Mr. Nguyen Hai Duc – VNEA President also said that from previous national conferences, the Association had also proposed that the elevator industry is a conditional business line. Members need a certificate of competence. However, this issue must also have an order for the competent authorities to consider and settle.
“Standardization, making the elevator industry a conditional industry is the “filter” of both domestic and foreign enterprises. This helps to avoid the elevator market being a safety-related market where anyone can enter and exit if they want to,” emphasized the VNEA Chairman.
Mr. Nguyen Hai Duc also said that other countries such as South Korea, Japan, etc. have all introduced conditional regulations for the elevator industry as well as training qualified and standard human resources when there are many unsafe case has happened before.

From raising the standardization of the elevator industry to help create a healthy and equal playing field for truly capable businesses, both domestic and international enterprises when participating in the Vietnamese elevator market. .
VNEA President emphasized that Vietnamese businesses need to be really serious about branding, together cleaning up the elevator market so that consumers will also believe in the quality of Vietnam elevator brand and the community will support our development.
Ms. Doan Thi Nhai – Director of Phuc Thanh Elevator Co., Ltd
